This is a beautiful tribute to our lovely mum, thank you Alma. She was very happy living in Tresham in such a supportive community and viewed you all not just as neighbours but as dear friends. We will certainly miss visiting her at weekends.

Our dear friend and neighbour, Jean Gill, died peacefully in her sleep, in a Bristol care home on the night of 25th May. She was 89 years old.
Jean and her husband, Tony moved to Woodpecker Cottage, Tresham in 1985. The large garden appealed to them.
When they arrived, the garden was laid to grass with fruit trees and vegetable plots. Sadly, Tony died shortly after they moved but Jean was a passionate, knowledgeable gardener; she redesigned and completely transformed the plot creating several ‘garden rooms’ and planting many trees, shrubs and interesting plants. I was impressed that she knew so many plants by their Latin names.
After she retired in 1995, she would lock the cottage door in the morning and carry her wicker basket packed with food and drinks and go up the steps to the back garden where she would remain for many hours.
Jean liked to visit open gardens and joined us on a visit to Biddestone Manor Garden in May 2018, as photographed here (click image to enlarge).

She loved to travel and spent several long holidays with her brother and his family at their home in Vanuatu.
In recent years, Jean spent more time doing crosswords and I occasionally helped her finish them. She was really good at puzzles and quizzes.
Jean looked forward to Tresham social events and enjoyed catching up with everyone’s news. She attended all the Seniors Lunches apart from the last when she was unwell.
We miss her.

Jean was a very interesting person, very good company and smartly dressed whenever we went out as a village group. She was also extremely appreciative and liked to join in whenever possible. We never heard her complain. Jean, we are thinking of you.

Jean was a lovely neighbour. It was through first sitting next to each other at a Village Seniors lunch that I got to know her. She was so interesting to talk with, and very friendly and amusing in her personality. Down this end of the village we have missed her since she left Tresham, and send her family our condolences now.
