Richard Graham, Parish Councillor writes:
A belated, but just as big thank you to everyone who turned out with tools and enthusiasm for our Spring Tidy. It really is wonderful what we have achieved together and how much better Well Hill now looks. In addition to the groundworks and bench restoration, at least 6 bin bags of litter were collected from our roads and verges. I wonder what proportion of this is possibly recycling cardboard and plastics being lost to the wind on a Monday night.
To keep our Village Green looking this good it was decided at the last Parish Council meeting to try and set out a more regular schedule of general up keep for us all to support when we can. As part of this it has also been acknowledged that the creation of the village bonfire needs to be better managed. This is to avoid the build up of large amounts of garden waste blighting Well Hill which may also encourage illegal fly tipping in the heart of our village. Accordingly, the Parish Council requests that the bonfire only be commenced in the last week of October and then only from woody garden prunings that will burn easily. Green and non wood wastes should be disposed of at the Council Recycling Site near Horsley. Those needing help in disposing of such items can contact the Parish Council for assistance.
I look forward to updating you again soon on further village tidy events. If anyone has any comments or ideas then please let me know.
