Gloucester Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers

The congregation decided to donate the collection from the service held yesterday, 4 October, to GARAS.  This amounted to £96.52 which, with Gift Aid, totalled £120.65.  This was paid over to GARAS today and we hope to hear (on the return of the Administrator later this week) what they plan to use the money for.

For more information about their work see www.garas.org.uk.

  1. Hello Richard

Please pass on our thanks from GARAS to your church for their donation of £120.65 to GARAS. At GARAS we often assist our clients in their endeavour to remain in this country as returning to their home country for many could be very dangerous. An example of how this money will be used would be to purchase a train ticket for a client to visit Liverpool branch of the Home Office, in order to submit further submissions on their asylum case. Or it may be used for a client to receive a counselling sessions from a trained psychotherapist, as you can understand many of the people we see have been through very traumatic times.

These are just a few specific examples but there are obviously many others ways in which we spend our funding, from offering English lessons to helping clients to find housing.

    Hope this helps you

    Thank you
